Why Joey's need a seatbelt

This is my argument writing about Joey's needing a seatbelt...

Why Joey's need a seatbelt

OK, I'm in a pouch, Now what do you think happens? I am a young Joey happily bouncing along in my mother's soft comfy pouch It's a lovely summers day, there's a lovely light spring going on in mummy's toes and suddenly… CRASH!!! a tree, a tree, a tree? not a big deal right? you might think it's not a big deal but to me it is a catastrophe! I get flung high in the air like I have been shot out of cannon, imagine if that happened to you! My kind plump mummy didn't notice a thing! What you must know about them Kangaroos is that they are not very protective. If I had a safety seat belt this wouldn't of happened. Aaaand yes, I just had to happen I HIT THE GROUND! ssss sss sss SSSS! whatttt? I felt dizzy but before my eyes there was a blurry image of Black and Yellow stripes, you must understand I am only young, I didn't know it was a Snake! And yes, the the hideous fangs clamped over me. and now that's why I think Joey's have to wear a seat belt. please just imagine if you were one.

In my opinion seatbelts for Joey's are important, we can save a lot more young Joey's lives.

Torbay school Remember

Torbay school remember

Remember the cool hokey pokey ice cream dribbling down your cheeks.
Remember puffing out your chest in pride as you marched to the front of the classroom to be awarded the certificate.
That was year 1.

Remember your tiny fingers straightening and your back straining while trying to reach your toes squealing out to ten in Maori.
Remember stealing a glance along with a smile to Stella as we burst a 2 + 2 bubble on the black coated Ipad.
That was year 2.

Remember sweeping a drop of sweat away while whizzing across the hall, competing in the beep test.
Remember feeling a wide grin spread across my face as we fitted the last coca cola bottle onto the recycled can cicada.
That was year 3.

Remember squinting to see in the blacker than black cave while crawling past the pale pink balloons.
Remember trying to look smart but failing when Danelle trotted past because I wanted to be cool like her when she arrived.
That was year 4.

Remember shoving the itchy uncomfortable wearable art dress over my skin ready to perform an phenomenal show.
Remember our brains spinning in frustration as we tried to come up with a mind blowing invention  for the dragons den.
That was year 5

Remember treading excitedly across the center of the stage while we were performing THE MUSIC BOOK show.
Do you remember the phenomenal fun we had on the last year of torbay.

Our school the year 4's - 6's are having a variety show and I am one of the lead rolls we have a lot of lines to learn. here is a poster I made to advertise it ...

The venue is Torbay school hall.

The play is about a magic music book

Kiwi for Kiwi morning tea

The Kiwi for Kiwi morning tea is a event set on the 16 / 10, it happens in schools all around New Zealand. We each bring a dish to sell and the money we make gets sent to the company that helps kiwi's live. How do they use this money you may ask? they use it to buy traps for pests, food for the Kiwi's that are being looked after, to build a predator-proof fence for a kiwi crèche, to employ a contract trapper, to run workshops to share kiwi conservation skills, the list is much much longer. the school that has donated the most money gets a visit from the bug man.

It was cool but we didn't win

The zoo

My heart was thumping away and it felt like there was an earthquake inside me. I was so exited as room 1&2 made there way along the path leading to a exquisite sight...

We were on a trip to the Auckland zoo, and I couldn't wait. I love the zoo seeing all the animals I don't usually see, and after a long bus trip (witch felt like ever!)  We were all sooo inpatient.

Here are some despicable pictures

It was a whole day trip and we also did lots of fun activity's such as pretending to be a a orangutan and doing everything without a thumb like undoing a double knot, reaching things inside a tube and writing your name. This was how I wrote my name:

...And how I normally write my name:

It doesn't look much different but it is a lot harder trying to do it neat!
The other activity's were animal tracking devices, Here is how the devices worked...
you want to find out if there are any disgusting dirty pests where you are placing pals to keep safe
from harm, so they put the pest devices down and put a piece of paper on the bottom of the device, then adds a little ink and food in it. The pest walks past with
his nose high in the air and he smells something good, he creeps around following his nose and he finds the food in the pest tracking device. The pest steps in the ink and gets footprints every where then when you come back you find out what made the footprints and that's how you know if there is any pests around!

For our activity we had to work out what made the footprint.

I learnt that orangutans are 97% like us
I learnt that an elephants tooth is as big as a whiteboard duster!

And I learnt that red pandas weigh up between seven and eleven pounds

our new classroom!

In the past year our school
decided to make double classrooms ...

 moving

We were about to move out for the building work to start so we moved into the library on the first day of term three.
In the library we got a taste of what our new classroom was going to be like because room 1&2 were both in the library.

Experience

It was loud and squished in the library and hard to work because of the banging and drilling next door but it was amazing since I had never been in a classroom with two classes in it and two teachers.

How long were we in the library for

We were in the library for six weeks working like normal, and suddenly the day rolled around... Week 6 term 3 Monday the excitement was bubbling up inside everyone. There was ten helpers to help move all the stuff in the rest of the people were in other classes working on inquiry witch is on endangered species.

finally!

Finally we moved in. It was so much bigger and better than the library, Here is what a few people think of the new classroom -

StellaI like that we get lots of different people to work with and there is breakout rooms where you can work quietly!
EllaI like the fact that we have a bigger space to work in and that we can work more collaboratively.
Danielit is very echoy but there is lots of space.
Courtneyi like having our own cubbyholes for our bags and pencil cases.
Amyit's big and loud.

speech

Hi it is time for speeches for year five and six I am aiming to get in the finals. Here is my draft speech

Deforestation

Intro

Forests are home to most of the plants and species on the earth. As the forest are destroyed, many species die out – an estimated 50,000 species a year. 80% of NZ used to be covered by forest. 12 to 15 hectares of forest are lost every year to deforestation. That’s the equivalent to 3 soccer fields every minute. I’ll give you an example hmm, how about the Amazon Rainforest, more than forty thousand varieties of bird species and over 2 thousand fish species!... But 2,700 million acres are burnt each year L

1/ Causes biodiversity to decline

2/ Release of greenhouse gasses emissions

3/ Disrupted water cycles

4/ Increased soil erosion

Body

Deforestation is the removal of tree’s transforming a forest into cleared land through logging or burning either to use the wood or use the area for alternative uses.

Biodiversity

Cutting down forests upsets biodiversity. Biodiversity, is the term used to describe the variety of life found on Earth and the connections between all these species and the environments they live in. Biodiversity is important to sustaining life on earth because it prevents any one species from throwing the balance of nature out of order. For example, snakes are not a welcome presence in our lives. We fear them and kill them because of it. One of the many things that snakes feed on is rats and if we were to kill of all the snakes, we would end up having a terrible rat problem. Therefore humans should to everything in their power to conserve the natural variation of snakes to ensure it doesn’t get an unnatural rat problem. Destroying forests will upset this delicate balance.

Greenhouse gasses

Greenhouse gasses are gases in our atmosphere that warm up our world. If we didn’t have these gases our world would be too cold to live in but on the other hand if these gases become stronger it could make the earth even warmer than usual, this may cause problems to human’s plants and animals. Cutting down forests causes 15% of greenhouse gas releases into the atmosphere which may increase the temperature of our world.

Disrupted water cycles Forests transport large quantities of water into the atmosphere this fills up the cloud which causes rain which maintains the forests – this is nature’s way of keeping the ecosystem running perfectly. BUT when forests are cut down there is less rain which causes the land to become very dry and that means is will be upsetting the ecosystem.

Conclusion

How can we stop (shrug) It’s actually the people that cut down the trees but, reduce your paper, reduce your oil Well, as things go on we are hardly noticing what is going on at every hour… minute… Second… Moment…
