My cross country remember poem

Do you like my cross country remember poem ? (talking about cross country I came second )

That was cross country

Remember the sound of the feet as they pounded in the muddy ground below them

Remember the feeling of our throat as dry as dust when we plodded along the sand

That was cross country

Remember the smell of the salty sea shells as they crunched with the weight of our feet

Remember the feeling dizzy inside as we were sprinting over the hurdles

That was cross country

Remember the sound of the children screeching our names as we bolted past them

Do you remember seeing the finish line as you pump your arms up in the air with pride

That was cross country

Yong leaders day

well at my school there is students called student leaders. A student leader must be respectful, help others, hard working and always responsible. I am a student leader and I have a badge that shows I am a leader. But on the 21 of may we went to something called national young leaders day were all the student leaders from all around the north island ( in NZ ) go to a place were people from all around the world come and tell us about there journey. Do you know what I mean by journey? people that have rough moments but they fight their troubles and live there life nicely once again. For example there    was a man called William Pike. This is him

    his dream was
to climb mountains and be a school teacher. One day he climbed a icy mountain and during the night there was an eruption and William went to have a look what was going, on but then heaps of rocks, ice and water flew towards him and he got trapped. His friend ( who was not hurt ) went to get help. He figured that help would come in 10 hours and he  was going to die in about 6 hours. Williams body temperature was now 26 degrees and our body temperature is 37 degrees and if our body drops two degrees we have to be rushed to the hospital! anyway he fell asleep and thought he would never wake up. When he woke up he was in the hospital. His leg had to be chopped off  an  d replaced by a fake leg. Now he is back to normal and living his dream. Williams saying was don't let your fears and worries get in the way!

Roald Dahl

By Roald Dahl

Matilda is a little girl. She has big brown eyes and a pretty smile. But although she is very nice, she has horrible parents that always tell her to shut up. Matilda is very smart but her mum and dad hardly notice it.  By the age of one she knew most words a grown up would know.  By the age of two she could read most fluently.  By the age of three she could cook off by heart, but her parents expected her to do nothing but watch TV. When she went to school she had a lovey teacher that was stunned with Matilda but the principal was not so nice in fact she was even worse than her parents, but Matilda soon discovers she has a very special power...

I rate this book 10 / 10 because it is very interesting and like tale of a tail it is so magical

Light power!

science day

Today was a cool day... a science day!
we did science experiments on light
we did lots of different things with light like  Spectrum, Color, reflection. We used mirrors, Lego,  water ice, colored paper and of coarse light

I enjoyed the ice and paper experiment  because it  was interesting to see what ice cube melted the  fasted was black. I think it was because it takes in  the heat and the second piece of ice that melted the  the piece on top on the piece of white paper but  I don't know why. I learnt who invented light his name was Thomas Edison's. The part was trying to make light bounce off mirrors around in a circle. I was surprised when the spoon reflecting worked my group worked well when we were trying to figure out the make light bounce. There is three different kinds of things in the world translucent ( means you can't see threw it ) transparent ( means you can see threw it ) and opaque ( means you can very dimly see threw it )

HERE ARE SOME GAMES TO DO WITH LIGHT

Making Light Bounce images

Objective
To demonstrate that light travels in straight lines.

Materials
3 or mirrors
Flashlight
Book

Experiment
  1. Set up a book on a table so that its’ standing. Point your light at the front side of the book. What happened to the beam of light?
  2. Lean the mirror against the front of the book so that its standing. Point the light at the mirror and turn it on. What happened to the bean of light?
  3. Have a friend help you use 2-3 mirrors to direct the light beam to the backside of the book through reflection. Try many different ways to do this. Draw diagrams of each path you create to reflect the light to the back of the book.

Prism Play

Objective
To demonstrate that a Isaac Newton was the first to discover that each beam of light is composed of a full range of colors.

Materials
Torches
White paper
mirror
Tub of water
Black card
Colored translucent colors (cellophane)

Experimental Procedure
Use the black paper to cover the flashlight beam, but first cut a small slit in the center of this piece of paper. Fill a small, clear, plastic tub with water and lean a mirror in the water at one end of the tub. Shine the light on the mirror. Hold up the blank white paper to catch the reflected beam of light.220px-GodfreyKneller-IsaacNewton-1689.jpg

Concave and Conveximages

Objective
To discover convex and concave objects and how they reflect light.

Materials
Spoon
Torch

Experiment
  1. Hold the spoon with the bulged-curved side directly facing a flashlight around 8 cm. Turn the light on. What do you see? Fill in your sheet
  2. Now flip the spoon over to the curved - inwards side and shine a light at it as you did in step one. Now what do you see?
  3. Compare the difference in light reflection

reading

In reading today I was free writing for one block. Here is the start of my free writing

It was a splendid day the, sunshine was breaking heat on the streets of Russia as the people strode back and fourth along the concrete. In a particularly large red house on the end of the road the roof was towering over the pedestrians in the town.

Thunder and Lightning KWL
WALT: activate our prior knowledge and question our thoughts and ideas

K
What I already Know
W
What I Want to know
L
What I have Learnt
Stella
  • That thunder and lightning
happens during a storm.
  • Lightning is made out of static electricity.
  • You know how far away if you count the seconds away from the lightning.
  • Ella: Thunder and lighting usually come in a storm together.
  • Devan: I think that thunder is a strong sound that occurs in a storm
  • I think that lightning is a static electricity force that also occurs in a storm
Rylan
I know that a storm is Brooding because a storm is mixing to create thunder and Lightning
 Johnny
that thunder is heard after lighting
katy thunder and lightning happens when there is a storm

Liam
I know that thunder and lightning are part of a storm a storm is dazzling. I also know that you can’t have positive and positive

Braeden: thunder makes big booming sounds and lighting flashes and also thunder and lighting only
comes when a storm

Arwyn:
  • That Thunder is a noise and lightning is a source of static electricity
Katy

  • I already know that lightning can kill lots of people

Braeden: want to know why lighting comes in storms and why does thunder make big booming sounds.

Ella: If positive and negative go with thunder and lighting.

Stella
  • How does lightning get made and  where does the electricity come from?
  • Why does the USA have more thunderstorms than us?

Katy how does thunder and lightning form

Rylan
I want to know how much energy is needed to create lightning
Johnny
if thunder follows lighting or if they separate
Liam
I want to know what brooding means and what brooding does or mixes with.

Devan: I want to know how does thunder and lightning happen.

Arwyn:
I want to know how lighting and thunder is made.

Braeden: when he negative and the positive atom combined together they make a big flash of lighting.

Katy
  • I have learnt that we can make static electricity by using a plastic hair brush in your hair

Stella
  • That during a thunderstorm you should not use electric things taps and sinks and even TV’s because the aerial attracts lightning.
  • You know that there is going to be an thunderstorm when it is an humid day and when the clouds are billowing and becoming back .
Ella
  • If you are in a storm and you can’t get inside, you have to duck down low and hide under a group of trees.
  • Metal and any object that runs on electricity attracts lighting.

Arwyn: I learnt that if you are in a big open space with no cars or houses near you have to duck down and hold your knees and get away from anything metal. DO NOT LAY DOWN!

LIAM
When lightning strikes from a storm cloud, the whole cloud lights up like a lamp.

Devan: when lightning strikes then the static electricity in the cloud goes up, down, up, down

explanation on snails

HOW DOES A SNAIL MOVE?

A snail is a disgusting slimy creature. They have a big shell on their back and eyes that poke out, they are incredibly slow but creatures are strange but we are all asking… how does a snail move?

snails move by using their body like waves so they they also push along with the back of it’s body so it can move along.

snails also move by gliding along with their strong foot and mucus underneath helps them slide along the rough ground. the mucus comes out the front of the foot called a gland

The mucus helps the snail move, when the snail moves the foot pushes and it makes these little ripples that make it move and the mucus helps it go over sharp objects. the ripples on the snail pushes it forward. with all that slime and a foot it's strange that it is not very fast, well the shell slows them down

I have worked more on my explanation on snails... do you like the start I have made?

Party!

On Mothers Day 10/5/15 it was my Birthday. I invited Stella and Ella. My present from Stella was a talking and singing watch, from Ella I got a lazer torch for Hazel and ping pong balls for Hazel. We played with Hazel all day and it was the best day ever.... but it was going to get better! what I did for my Birthday is go to the show singing in the rain here is a picture of the advertisement.

It was the best show ever! Then I had a sleepover with them and Hazel slept with us!

TALE OF A TAIL

Tale of a tail is a book by Margaret Mahy, she is from NZ and she is very famous.
cv_tale_of_a_tail
It is a book about a boy called Tom. He moved in to a place called Prodigy Street, he did not like it there because it was boring. His mum told him that Prodigy means magic so he was told to go out side to have a look. when he was outside he saw a red roofed house, ans a van parked outside the house he went to have a closer look and a old black car parked outside, a man came out a said hello what can i do for you. Hello said Tom, are you moving in? yes the man said my dog chose it for me there was a dog down at his feet. It turned out the person that was in the black car was called Tomasz to and they became friends, the boy tom took Najki (the dog)  out for a walk every day and Najkis tail was magic so tom was granting wishes but one day a cat pounced on Najkis tail and the tail was not magic any more then Najki and Tomasz moved house again but someone with new puppies moved in. One of the looked like Najki and the puppies were for free! so tom got a puppy and It was a magic one!

I rate this book 10/10 because it is so magical and funny... Try it out! If you have read it please comment because I want to see what you think of it!
